Meet the Yarns
Here’s a look at a few of the treasures tucked inside this season’s box:
🐑 The Grey Sheep Co. – Stein Fine Wool® DK
100g | DK Weight | Farm to Skein
At The Grey Sheep Co., everything happens on the farm—from lambing and shearing to spinning and dyeing. Their thoughtful, small-scale approach avoids flock-wide antibiotics and allows lambs to self-wean, fostering healthier animals and a lighter environmental footprint.
This skein is spun from their own Stein Fine Wool® breed and hand-sorted to ensure exceptional softness and consistency. Dyed in a custom Woolly Thistle colorway, it’s paired with a brand-new, exclusive pattern designed just for this yarn.
As the makers say:
“Our goal is to prove that we can produce awesome yarn, but not at the expense of our animals and our land.”
🧵 Tuku Cashmere Silk – 3 x 25g Balls
4ply | Fingering Weight | 70% Recycled Cashmere, 30% Cruelty-Free Silk
Spun in Italy with elegance and intention, this yarn blends sustainability with softness. The recycled cashmere lowers environmental impact, while cruelty-free silk adds natural luster and drape.
The silk is harvested only after the butterflies have emerged from their cocoons, a more ethical approach to collecting this special material. It's a beautiful match for lightweight garments and accessories alike.
Tukuwool Cashmere Silk 4ply beautifully complements the other yarns from Tuku,
🌾 West Yorkshire Spinners Fleece BFL – 100g
DK Weight | 100% Bluefaced Leicester Wool
A heritage British fleece with soft sheen and superb stitch definition, this Thistler-favorite yarn brings cozy structure to your colorwork, cables, or simple stitches.
The shades in the box are dyed in tonal colors inspired by Yorkshire’s surrounding landscape—making every skein feel like a postcard from the countryside.
🐚 WoolDreamers Saona – 2 x 50g Balls
Fingering Weight | 50% Andalusian Cotton / 50% Wool
Saona is a versatile treasure you’ll want to knit with all year long. Soft and breathable, its heathered look adds subtle texture to sweaters, tees, shawls, and more. The fiber blend—Spanish Merino and Manchega wool with Andalusian cotton—is as beautiful as it is practical.
The name Saona comes from the river where the founder’s grandfather once brought wool by mule-drawn cart. There, the fleece was washed by hand and dried along the riverbanks—part of a family tradition that eventually led to spinning and weaving in the local mill. It’s a yarn rooted in craft, memory, and meaningful making—sourced and spun entirely in Spain.
🧶 Jamieson’s of Shetland DK – 4 x 25g Balls
DK Weight | 100% Shetland Wool | Perfect for Colorwork
A thicker companion to the beloved Spindrift, this DK version offers that signature Shetland bounce in a quicker-knit format.
These 25g balls come in coordinating colors, ideal for Fair Isle knitting or adding punchy details to hats, mittens, sweaters, and more. Grown and spun entirely in Shetland, it’s as woolly and authentic as it gets.
🐏 Garthenor Organic Number 2 – 2 x 50g Skeins
4ply / Sport Weight | 100% Undyed Wool | Natural Tones Inspired by New Hampshire
Garthenor is a name we return to again and again—for their commitment to transparency, their unwavering sustainability practices, and their unmistakably woolly yarns.
For this year’s box, Garthenor spun something truly special: Number 2, a soft yet rustic 4ply/sportweight wool presented in four undyed natural shades—each one named for a beloved corner of our home state: White Mountains, Granite, Monadnock, and Light Maple. You'll receive two 50g skeins in one of these tones, and like us, you’ll likely find it hard to choose a favorite.
Minimally processed and never dyed, this yarn speaks to everything we love about working with wool in its most honest form—warm, grounded, and full of life.
As always with Garthenor, it’s not just a yarn. It’s a philosophy you can knit with.
🐐 Whistlebare Yeavering Bell – 100g Skein
Fingering Weight | 80% Mohair (from Angora Goats), 20% Wensleydale Wool | Hand-Dyed
This final yarn reveal feels like a quiet triumph. Yeavering Bell, from Whistlebare in Northumberland, rarely leaves its farm—so the fact that it’s in this year’s Taster Box makes it all the more meaningful.
Spun on-site from the fleeces of Whistlebare’s own angora goats and Wensleydale sheep, this luminous yarn combines the long-staple shine of mohair with the structure and character of rare-breed wool. It’s worsted-spun for a smooth finish and exceptional drape, and each skein is hand-dyed on the farm, wrapped in Whistlebare’s distinctive label.
There’s a calm strength to Yeavering Bell—one that invites slow, satisfying making. As the Whistlebare team puts it:
"With care, garments made from Yeavering Bell will last forever."
It’s a perfect closer to this year’s Taster Box: quiet, rare, and full of grace.
