The Buness Tam, designed by MJ Mucklestone, is inspired by the summer flowers of Shetland - fields of sea-pinks, roadside berms of ragged robin, drifting feathers and curious small leaves combine to make this sweet tam. Buness is knit straight up from the brim, the crown decreases create shaping for the large flower motif. The classic flat tam shape is achieved by blocking over a dinner plate!

This Yarn Set Includes: 

  • All the yarn needed to complete the project
  • The Woolly Thistle tote (size small)

This yarn set does not include the pattern which can be found in the book, Fair Isle Weekend. The individual pattern can also be purchased directly from the designer on Ravelry: Buness Tam by Mary Jane Mucklestone.

One size, 20in (51cm) circumference at the brim, 9in (23cm) diameter at the widest point.

Couldn’t be better!

I’m set to give this another go. It’s a fabulous hat! The J&S fingering is yummy. The pattern is clear and detailed. My only concern is that the White in the Kit is Stone and the hat would look better with a white background. I’ll fix that for the next one 🙂. I loved making it and I’ll live wearing it.
