Da Crofter's Kep by Wilma Malcolmson in Jamieson & Smith

Wilma Malcolmson made history as the first Shetland Wool Week Patron to be honored for a second year (2020 and 2021). Her hat design for 2021, Da Crofter's Kep, celebrates the history of Shetland land tenure, the people who care for it, and its sheep. We've curated a beautiful selection of three colorways in addition to the Designer's Original Colorway #2 with Jamieson & Smith 2 ply Jumper Weight Yarn.

Jamieson & Smith 2 ply 100% Shetland Wool is a traditional and sturdy fingering weight wool with crisp stitch definition, ideal for fair isle knitting. All the Shetland wool you need to bring this design to life is tucked in a The Woolly Thistle tote with a surprise stitch marker.

A few words about Da Crofter's Kep from Wilma Malcolmson:

Tammy Fraser, my father, was a crofter who worked the land throughout his life. Although this involved long days, difficult times and many struggles, I know that he loved what he did and remember the great pride he had in his achievements.

So, just as ‘Katie’s Kep’ is a tribute to my mother and all the knitters like her, ‘Da Crofter’s Kep’ is my way of honouring the people who work the land here in Shetland. For generations, and in all weathers, their commitment to their land and livestock has ensured that families are provided for and a special way of life has not been lost. Without them there would be no Shetland sheep, no wool and no yarn... imagine that!

As always, it is important to manage gauge to ensure you will have enough yarn. If you are worried, you can purchase an extra skein! Please remember that every effort is made to represent the true colors of the yarn and that monitor settings will vary.
