Introducing the Cambo Cowl by Journey Through Yarn. This gorgeous colorwork cowl is knit with The Woolly Thistle Rambler yarn. Rebecca of Journey Through Yarn created this fun design with inspiration from the tranquil beauty of Cambo Gardens in Fife, Scotland. Known for its lush woodlands and vibrant landscapes, the gardens evoke a sense of peaceful serenity. This design aims to bring a piece of that natural beauty into your everyday wear.
Rambler Yarn is 100% wool; Dorset, Corriedale, and Romney were chosen for strength and softness in this yarn. Structurally, Rambler Yarn is a 3-ply, light fingering weight yarn. This beautiful cowl is the perfect reason to get some Rambler on your needles!
The Set includes:
Sizing: One size
As always, it is important to manage gauge to ensure you will have enough yarn. If you are worried you can purchase an extra skein. Please remember that every effort is taken to represent the true colors of the yarn and that monitor settings will vary.
I have purchased kits from Wooly Thistle before that included a code to purchase the patter from Ravelry. This "kit" is only two skeins of yarn. IMHO, that's not a kit. In addition, I found this yarn very difficult to work with. Took me three tries to cast on without a twist. Balling the yarn was also annoying, even though I was using a niddy-noddy and a wool winder--I ended up spending almost a full afternoon untangling. Overall, this cowl will cost me more than $100, plus my time and effort. I'll be a more savvy shopper on this site in the future.
Hi Kirsten.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and we're truly sorry to hear about the frustration you ran into. We'd like to clarify that the Cambo Cowl is a yarn set, which includes the yarn, a tote, and stitch marker, but not the pattern. This is different from our kit offerings that do include the pattern.
Regarding the twisting you experienced, this is a newer issue for Rambler. We've heard of one other experience like this in the last month that sounds similar to your issue with the yarn. Rambler has a high twist to increase durability and this could be a similar case where more twist was added in the same direction of the ply when you wound it (all in the same direction) which then added more energy into the yarn while you were doing your beginning cast on.
Since this is our TWT in-house yarn, we will reach out to the mill to see if anything has changed in their process that may have created more twist than desired. It is unusual to hear about this much difficultly when winding. If you could please email us at info@woollythistle.com (with pictures if you took any during the process) our team would love to chat and help troubleshoot your project with you!
Our knitting kits are specially curated with all the yarn and inspiration you'll need to complete your project
