The Cake Fridge Hat by Gudrun Johnston is a true Shetland favorite; It's playful, woolly, and full of island charm. Inspired by the legendary Cake Fridge (a much-loved community fridge in Shetland always stocked with homemade treats), this cheerful colorwork hat celebrates warmth, generosity, and the simple joy of knitting something special. First published in Grand Shetland Adventures, the design quickly became a beloved classic.
We’re delighted to offer yarn sets featuring Gudrun’s original colorway, along with a brand-new colorway created especially for us Thistlers. Each yarn set includes all the yarn you need for the colorway of your choice and a TWT Stitch Marker. All this woolly goodness is tucked inside a custom drawstring project bag featuring a graphic designed by Gudrun’s daughter, Maya, making this set as thoughtful and charming as the hat itself. Cast on for a quick, joyful knit that carries a little slice of Shetland community straight to your needles.

Circumference at Brim: 18" / 45.5 cm; Widest Point 21.5" / 54 cm
Length from brim to crown as worn: 9” / 23cm
Fits head circumferences 19-21" / 48-53 cm with 1-3" / 2.5-7.5 cm of negative ease
Construction Information from Ravelry: This hat is worked from the brim to the crown, beginning with a ribbed brim. Fair Isle charts are then worked for the body of the hat through the crown decreases. An optional pom-pom can be added.
