The Woolly Thistle is delighted to bring you this new yarn from Armscote Manor in South Warwickshire, England. Armscote Manor is a Jacobean house that was built by John Halford, a wool merchant, back in the early 1600's. Deborah Williams has lived there with her family for 25 years and more recently embarked on keeping and breeding Portland Sheep, an at risk rare breed. Portland Sheep are the oldest recorded sheep in England and even have a mention in the Doomsday Book.
Armscote Manor also keeps a small flock of Black Welsh Mountain Sheep and has blended both fleeces to varying degrees to come up with lovely shades of grey - all of which is now available at The Woolly Thistle. Their wool is spun by the Natural Fibre Company.
A plump, undyed, unbleached British DK yarn spun from the fleeces of a conservation grazing flock of this rare breed (Portland) which is one of the oldest known breeds in England.
