Through words and pictures, knitting and writing, history and photography, Kate Davies explores the beautiful and intriguing landscape of Cowal, also known as Argyll’s Secret Coast.

This book is the culmination of Argyll's Secret Coast Club by Kate Davies, including 12 new designs from Kate. The patterns are paired with beautiful photography by Tom and thought-provoking essays exploring Argyll’s history, landscape and built heritage from expert contributors like Alex Hale, Michael Hartley, Jamie Stewart-Jones, Gilbert Màrkus, and Stephen Mullen.

Patterns in this book include garments, accessories, and items for the home, including a blanket/throw. There's a bit of colorwork, openwork, texture and embroidery techniques. Some patterns are designed with men as well as women in mind, and all are graded across an inclusive size range.

More information from Kate Davies:

Big skies, sweeping lochs, faint paths that lead forever westward, endless miles of coast. But what do we really see when we look at this distinctive and intriguing part of Scotland? How might we read the traces of the past in the landscape of the present? What do we call to mind about this place? And which aspects of its story deserve commemoration?

Presented chronologically, the essays will take you from the neolithic period to the recent past. You'll explore the landscape by land and by water; follow in the footsteps of Argyll's early settlers; learn about the creative individuals who found their place here; discover the important (and under-appreciated) colonial and imperial legacies of the landscape; and discover, in a range of different ways what this place has meant to the generations of inventive and resourceful people who have lived, worked, and passed through Argyll's secret coast.
