The Biches & Bûches Le Petit Silk & Mohair is the finest blend of 30% silk and 70% kid mohair from Italy. Available here at The Woolly Thistle in many shades, most of which, coordinate with a shade of Le Petit Lambswool. This yarn is stunningly soft with a lovely halo and also has a delicate shine from the silk. A soft and strong yarn that will make knitting a joy with every stitch.
Knit with Le Petit Silk & Mohair by itself or combine a strand of it with a strand of Le Petit Lambswool and you'll have a project that is dreamy soft with a gentle halo to it. There are many wonderful patterns that use this technique including the Ranunculus by Midori Hirose & Circe by Natasja Hornby (Linked patterns are available on Ravelry.)
I was slow to get on the mohair knitting band wagon. But now that I've started I want to knit more with it. I'm knitting the "Stockholm Slipover" by PetiteKnit. I've paired it with Shetland wool (which is a little scratchy) and I think it's makes a beautiful soft fabric.
I'm so pleased with this yarn, it feels incredible, and the colors are luscious.
I had planned to pick up my order on a quick trip to VT, but got sick and had to cancel. So TWT was able to send me my order instead...thank you! I figured out a trick for testing "next to skin" wearability. Order a skein (or several of different sorts to compare), and stick one inside your upper sleeve, or under the collar or bra strap/cup or all three for at least 15+ minutes. If it doesn't itch, it's next-to-skin soft! The Biches et Buches silk mohair ACED the test--so much more comfy than other brands (for me, better than Rowan Kid Silk!!!). I actually forgot it was in my sleeve!!!! And the Norwegian Red is heavenly.
With the new, modest flat shipping fee, I could then order enough for a summer confection of a sweater in the Biche et Buches, and TWT staff were happy to check before ordering that I could get the same dye lot. Perfectamundo and Thank You Jill and Margaret and co.
