The Bluefaced Lesicester (BFL) breed originated in the early 1900's in Northumberland County, England. The Dishley Leicester and Border Leicester breeds were bred to produce high quality cross-bred ewes. The result is the Bluefaced Lesicester with wool which has a long staple length and well-defined crimp. These sheep are most commonly white, with the occasional black and have dark facial skin under white hair, producing a "blue faced' appearance.
The Jagger family has been spinning yarn in southern Maine since the 1880’s (and before that, in England). Uriah Jagger (first generation) came from England and worked as a supervisor in the Goodall mills in Sanford. His two sons started their own mill in 1898: Jagger Brothers. In 1956, the third generation moved the business to the mill building in Springvale (part of Sanford) where we still are today. Jagger Spun was started in the 1980’s (by David Jagger, fourth generation) to sell stock service coned yarns to weavers and small manufacturers.
