Jagger Spun yarn has become a favorite of staff here at The Woolly Thistle and we're delighted to add the Woolful Bluefaced Leicester (BFL) to our Jagger Spun offerings. This 100% Bluefaced Leicester offers great stitch definition and creates a fabric that is soft while also being resistant to pilling. This undyed BFL is a blend of white and colored wool for a soft, earthy, oatmeal brown shade. If you're planning colorwork, you'll find that Jagger Spun Oatmeal BFL knits up beautifully with the Gotland Heathers and Heathers Fingering!

The Bluefaced Lesicester (BFL) breed originated in the early 1900's in Northumberland County, England. The Dishley Leicester and Border Leicester breeds were bred to produce high quality cross-bred ewes. The result is the Bluefaced Lesicester with wool which has a long staple length and well-defined crimp. These sheep are most commonly white, with the occasional black and have dark facial skin under white hair, producing a "blue faced' appearance.

The Jagger family has been spinning yarn in southern Maine since the 1880’s (and before that, in England). Uriah Jagger (first generation) came from England and worked as a supervisor in the Goodall mills in Sanford. His two sons started their own mill in 1898: Jagger Brothers. In 1956, the third generation moved the business to the mill building in Springvale (part of Sanford) where we still are today. Jagger Spun was started in the 1980’s (by David Jagger, fourth generation) to sell stock service coned yarns to weavers and small manufacturers.

    Oh so soft

This yarn is truly a delight. Soft and squishy. You can’t stop touching it. I can’t wait to finish what I’m making with it
