Wrap yourself in the soft beauty of Shetland’s granite hills with this yarn set for the Lang Ayre hap by Gudrun Johnston. Inspired by the many-hued stripes of pink and grey granite around Ronas Hill in Shetland, Lang Ayre begins with a center-out diamond and builds into a wide, wearable shawl textured in garter-stitch and rich color transitions. This hap was first published in Kate Davies' Book of Haps and is now available as an individual pattern on Ravelry!
The Lang Ayre yarn set includes a colorful array of Jamieson & Smith 2-ply (fingering-weight, 100% Shetland wool), a heritage yarn full of character. J&S 2ply is strong, full of bounce, naturally softens with wear, and shows the subtle granite-inspired stripes of this design beautifully. This lovely color palette is tucked inside a TWT Tote with a stitch marker. It's a perfect pairing of woolly texture and Shetland inspiration.

Construction Information From the Designer: This shawl starts with a center-out construction where yarn overs are made at the beginning of every row to increase the centre diamond to the widest point. Yarn overs continue to be made at the beginning of each row as the second half of the diamond is formed but this time decreases are also made at the beginning and end of each row to get rid of stitches. Two triangles are then made, working from the edges of the diamond.
