About the Designer:

Mary Jane Mucklestone is a beloved knitwear designer, teacher, and author. She  loves knitting with lots of color and she specializes in stranded knitting.

"Though the subject "Scandinavia" is ridiculously large to squeeze into one book, I've attempted to give you a nice cross section of pattern motifs, some very old and some decidedly contemporary, for Scandinavian design is always evolving. I hope you'll use this work as a jumping-off point for your own Scandinavian textile designs and discoveries." -Mary Jane Mucklestone

Add this book to your personal library.

This is a great book for both colorwork novices and experienced knitters to have in their personal libary. It includes foundational information with great photos for people starting out and, of course, the motif directory is a rich reference tool for knitters who want to choose their own motifs. There is enough information here for you to design something from start to finish.

My only reservation has to do with some color combinations that were low contrast and made patterns less clear or didn’t strike me as well chosen. But that is really just a personal taste note! The point is that you can choose any colors you like, you don’t have to stick with traditional combinations.
