We are proud to stock this 4ply yarn from Armscote Manor in South Warwickshire, England. You'll love this plump, undyed, unbleached British 4-ply yarn. This beautiful wool is spun from the fleeces of a conservation grazing flock of Portland sheep which is one of the oldest known breeds in England. Armscote Manor is also the home of a smaller flock of Black Welsh Mountain which gives us the rich and beautiful darker colored wool and when mixed we have Portland with a Dash of Black Welsh Mountain which is a natural grey!
Please note that although the mix is the same, the Dash of Black Welsh Mountain varies each year as the yarn is undyed. This year Dash is a lighter grey than last year.
Please remember that every effort is taken to represent the true colors of the yarn and that monitor settings will vary.

I can't express how delightful this yarn is. It manages to be woolly but with such a great hand -- soft but sproingy (not limp). I'm literally sitting here fondling it while trying to decide what to make with it. I'm not that familiar with the Portland breed although this yarn has made me a fan.

I had been waiting for this yarn to come back into stock. I had some in my stash already and wanted to make The Vanilla Sweater with the Black Welsh Mountain yarn. It was worth the wait. I can tell this yarn isn't/wasn't processed much. Veg matter! The color is unbelievable. I mean this yarn just about came strait off of the sheep to my house!! It's wooly. It smells sheepy. LOVE IT!
