Knitting While Black by @darcidoesit

Red Cross Nurse (and an interesting history of the first licensed Black nurse; her name was Mary Eliza Mahoney)

I'm enjoying this excellent new project called 'Knitting While Black' which recreates historical paintings or photos of women knitting. Darci Kern is a resourceful young woman who is creative and inspiring. To me her work shows that knitting belongs IN life and is not something to be held separate from our struggles. Knitting has been a part of every day life for women through the ages and has never been a sacred cow held in isolation from all that is involved in living life. You can find @darcidoesit on instagram where she's taking a poll on who she should recreate next. I can't wait!
