Hello from Rachel on Fair Isle

By Maggie Nichols

My friend Rachel lives on Fair Isle and I'm thrilled to welcome her here to The Woolly Thistle blog showing us a bit of her life and work. I hope you enjoy her video as much as I do. I especially love seeing her sheep and hearing their adorable names and seeing their eager faces.  Rachel will be a regular contributor to our blog so be sure to leave her a comment letting her know you enjoyed her video!

  • Hello Rachel,
Such a different life you have. I’m too much of a townie (in Ohio, USA) to do what you do, but I do appreciate your choice of profession and am impressed that you live in such rugged countryside. Your sheep are adorable and I wish you all good luck with lambing.

  • Love watching and hearing about your life on Fair Isle. Have so many questions about your way of life. When I saw the sheep eating, I wondered about the hay. Grown there and stored? I also loved that the sheep seem to be part of the family. So curious and affectionate. It is a treat hearing from you.

  • Hi Rachel! Your video is delightful. I’m super cheered by your rainbow jumper, all the sheep and their sweet names, and the beauty of Fair Isle. Can’t wait to see the lambs!

  • The name “Barnacle” is simply the best. I laughed outloud, thought of my cat Minerva and gave her barnacle as a middle name. Landscape is amazing.
    wishing you the best,
