This British BFL/Masham DK yarn, spun in West Yorkshire, was naturally dyed using a variety of dye sources. It is a 2 ply yarn, and is lovely, lofty, light and soft to the hand.
Blue faced Leicester wool is loved by knitters and crocheters for the hardy yet soft yarn that results. Blending a little Masham (pronounced massam) fleece into the mix you get a more rare yarn that maintains its soft handle while giving depth of color to dyed yarns because the Masham is a pale brownish/grey shade.
BFL's are well known and loved by knitters and crocheters. However, we might not know as much about the Masham. Masham sheep are the result of breeding a Dalesbread ewe and Teeswater ram. Masham sheep are found on the Dales of Yorkshire and other Northern English landscapes and they play an integral part of the sustainability of their landscape and farming in that area.
