Skipwith is a pattern from Rachel Atkinson that was first seen in the knitting book Daughter of a Shepherd Volume 1: Beginnings. It is everything that Rachel wanted in a cardigan; light fabric, quick to knit, interesting but unfussy details and minimal finishing.
Kit includes:
Please note that buttons are not included in this kit. You can browse our selection of pewter buttons here.
Be sure to purchase the kit with the pattern booklet if you do not already own this book/pattern. As always, it is important to manage gauge to ensure you will have enough yarn. Please remember that every effort is taken to represent the true colors of the yarn and that monitor settings will vary.
Sizing:
Size 1 - 32" to 44" (3 skeins)
Size 2 - 48" to 56" (4 skeins)
Please note Size 1 as listed in the pattern (32") uses the entirety of two skeins and the pattern recommends purchasing a third skein to be on the safe side. We have included the third skein for this size range.
Construction: Skipwith is worked flat in one piece from the bottom upwards to the underarm. Sleeves are worked separately and flat, before joining with the Body at the yoke. Raglan decreases shape the lower yoke with short rows across the Back. Repeats of the garter lace pattern from the hem and cuffs conceal further yoke decreases up to the neck. A button band is picked up and worked on afterwards to ensure a stable fastening.
