You will also need:

- 1 set of double-pointed needles (DPNs) or your preferred needles for knitting small diameters in the round.  Different gauges are used to achieve different hat sizes so swatching is important. Suggested needle sizes are 2.5mm, 2.75mm or 3.0mm depending on the size of hat you are knitting.

Gauge

Please refer to Da Crofter's Kep pattern for gauge information.  Different gauges are used to achieve different sizes of hat. It is important to get gauge to ensure you have enough yarn.

A few words about Da Crofter's Kep from Wilma Malcolmson:

Tammy Fraser, my father, was a crofter who worked the land throughout his life. Although this involved long days, difficult times and many struggles, I know that he loved what he did and remember the great pride he had in his achievements.

So, just as ‘Katie’s Kep’ is a tribute to my mother and all the knitters like her, ‘Da Crofter’s Kep’ is my way of honouring the people who work the land here in Shetland. For generations, and in all weathers, their commitment to their land and livestock has ensured that families are provided for and a special way of life has not been lost. Without them there would be no Shetland sheep, no wool and no yarn... imagine that!

Also just a fun wee note that "Da" in Shetland means "The" so with that logic can you figure out what Da Wadderman would be?  For a hint you can give Da Wadderman a look and follow on Instagram!
